#96 When Everyone's An Expert, and I Just Want To Eat Right
Jan 19, 2026"Ayurveda, Blue Zones, and the Medical Medium walk into a kitchen..."
Sounds like a punchline, but it’s actually my brain on any given day.
Because here I am, sitting down to a warm, grounding meal I’ve made a thousand times - Ayurvedic-inspired, simple, familiar, and wondering if I’m doing it right.
Part of me feels great.
And part of me is asking... should I be adding more protein?
Should I be eating for my blood type?
Do I need more fiber? Less fruit? More fat?
And then there's alcohol.
I don’t drink much, one drink a week...if that.
But even that?
Lately, my body’s giving me a pretty clear “no.”
It’s not the drink that’s hard to let go of—it’s what it represents.
The moment of belonging, of being part of the group.
The sip that says, “I’m in this with you.”
But when I tune in? I don’t enjoy it anymore. Not even a little.
And still... I try to convince myself I can make it work.
That I should be able to. That I’m strong enough to “handle” it.
But why am I trying to handle something that’s not bringing me peace?
That’s what today’s episode is really about:
Not rules. Not trends. Not what’s “best.”
But learning to trust your body, even when it asks you to do something uncomfortable.
Even when it means stepping outside the crowd.
Even when it means saying, this worked for me once, but it’s not what I need now.
Because the wisest wellness plan is not someone else's blueprint. It’s the one your body is already writing if you’re willing to listen.
What’s really going on?
This isn’t just about food.
It’s about trust.
It’s about safety.
It’s about the desire to feel clear, vibrant, and at peace in your own body while navigating conflicting advice from people who all sound like they’ve got the answer.
And here I am, not trying to follow a trend, but trying to listen to the wisest source of all: my own body.
The Truth
No one knows your body’s story better than you.
Not the Medical Medium.
Not Dan Buettner.
Not the gut-health doctor with 300K followers on Instagram.
Not even your favorite author or healer.
All of these voices, even the "Spirit of Compassion", are tools, not truths. They're maps, not your terrain. Your body is the terrain. And it's always speaking to you, even if the language gets drowned out by wellness noise.
So... back to Ayurveda?
I feel my best when eating Ayurvedically. It brings me back to my BEST SELF, gives me energy, balance, clarity, so that’s my body's "Yes!"
And at the same time, I’ve been intentionally working on building muscle mass in this postmenopausal season.
That’s part of my body’s "yes," too.
Because strength is wellness. Resilience is regulation.
I’ve learned I don’t have to pick one camp and live there forever.
I can eat Ayurvedically and lift weights.
I can love kitchari and strength training.
I can honor ancient wisdom and adapt it to my modern life.
It’s not a contradiction—it’s a conversation between all parts of me.
What’s “right” for you?
“Right” isn’t a set of rules. It’s a relationship between me and my body. What I really need right now isn’t a new plan. It’s quiet.
Maybe you also need a pause. A moment to ask your body:
- What foods make me feel grounded and light?
- What am I craving that’s not on the plate?
- What’s working right now, and what’s noise?
- What makes me feel loved, not restricted?
💡 So here are my next steps:
-
Return to what worked - Ayurvedic-inspired meals that I know make my body say “thank you.”
-
Honor my strength goals - Build muscle in ways that feel aligned, not aggressive.
-
Simplify for two weeks - Block out the noise. Don’t add anything new. Just listen.
-
Trust my seasons - Now is my grounding season, not my “trim” season. Bodies shift.
-
Stay curious, not critical - Let food be a practice in love and compassion, not perfection.
If you're in the same space as I am at the minute, stay curious, not critical. Let food be a practice in love and compassion, not perfection.
